We are obtaining Easter flowers in a different manner this year. Many growers have stopped handling Church pre-orders of Easter flowers. So this year, we are trying something different. Instead of ordering your Easter flowering plant through Bethany, we ask that you purchase one at any store of your choosing and bring it to Bethany before the Easter Resurrection Service at 8:00 a.m. You will be able to drop them off on Saturday when you come for your Easter vigil slot. The only flower requirements are:

• You purchase plants and not cut flowers. We don’t want to risk vases tipping onto the Church carpet.
• You tell Sarah how many plants you will be bringing and whether any of them will be Easter lilies. There is a signup sheet at Bethany, but you can text or call Sarah at 703-861-5606 if that is easier for you.
• We prefer green pot covers on the pots, it possible.
Thank you for your help!

After DVD sessions with new insights for Lent and Easter, we will tour Europe via DVD with a praise and worship group, studying “Poets and Saints”, C.S. Lewis, Augustine, Francis, and others.

Start the New Year off by joining us for our weekly share & prayer time every Sunday morning at 10:00 AM.

If you have a desire to pray for our nation, church, community, or for the needs of our church members, this is the place for you!

Junior Disciples is back! This group is for elementary school aged children.

They will meet once a month.

No meetings are planned at this time.

People of the Covenant (POC) Bible Study Group continues to meet Mondays, 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Fellowship hall. Both men and women are welcome. Please join us as we study God’s word!

The People of the Covenant group will begin a new study discussing the DVD series "Becoming a Woman of Strength", by Cythia Heald.
POC will be meeting on the 8th, 15th, and 29th of April.

Christian Action continues to collect nonperishable canned food for the Oxon Hill Food Pantry.  There is a special need for the following: peanut butter & jelly, soup, cereal, evaporated milk, tuna, and other canned meats and pasta.  A collection box is in the church lobby.  Please check the expiration dates.

The Oxon Hill Food Pantry could use canned soups, paper products and toothpaste in addition to peanut butter & jelly, cereal, evaporated milk, canned meats, pasta and any other non-perishable food. The collection tub is in the foyer near the office.

Community Spring Gardening Event

Everyone is invited to our Community Spring Gardening Event on April 13, 2019 at Bethany Christian Church. Are you someone who loves all things green? Come out and learn more about fertilizers, lime applications, native plantings and more!

Presentation starts at 9:00 AM and a workday is scheduled from 10:15 AM to 12:00 noon.

A continental breakfast will be provided.

Celebrate Easter with Us!

Easter Sunday will be celebrated on April 21, with two services: At the 8 AM Easter Resurrection Service, the BYF will offer this year's message. At the 11:00 AM Easter Service, Dr. Bob will preach. Handbells are planning to perform.
In between the two services, please join us for our Easter morning breakfast and, at 10:00 AM, our Easter Egg hunt (for children 12 and under). Please contact Sarah Swett if you have any questions.

Board Meeting

Due to Easter falling on the third Sunday in April, the Stewardship and Finance Meeting has been moved to Sunday, April 28 at 8:30 AM, followed by the Board Meeting at 9:00 AM
Woman's Retreat

The CCCA Women's Retreat will take place May 31-June 2, 2019 at Christian Church Conference Center at Bethany Beach.

General Assembly

The General Assembly of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) will take place July 20-24 in Des Moines, Iowa.

We have started an electronic supplement to the weekly Bethany Prayer Journal. Anyone who would like to be e-mailed prayer requests as we receive them midweek, can give their e-mail address to Frank Shirer.  When you notify the church office of prayer needs, please let them know if it is OK to put the request on the e-mail prayer chain as well as the Prayer Journal.  Also let us know if the request is confidential. If you have any questions, contact Frank Shirer or Becky Minetto.

Bethany needs acolytes for each worship service. If you or your child (age 7 or older) can help, please sign up on the signup sheet on the Welcome Desk in the Lobby. Parents, please sign up for your children (do not let your children sign up for themselves) and consider being an acolyte parent for the week as well. Teenagers (13+) and adults can sign up as well. Acolytes do not need to be children. If you have any questions about acolyting, please speak with Sarah Swett.

Thank you!

Library Rejuvenation

Take a look at the library shelves in the Parlor. We're in the process of putting books back in order and deciding what to keep and what to remove. Please help us! Books stacked on their sides to the right we're considering removing. If you would like us to keep any, just put them back with the vertical books on the left of each shelf.
We're hoping to make room for newer books and DVDs. If you want to donate Christian books and DVDs, please give them to Becky Minetto.

The Weekly Prayer List

The weekly prayer list found in your bulletin keeps us mindful of those in need of prayer. However, the list continues to grow. Please help us keep the prayer list up-to-date by calling the church office to let us know when a name may be removed.

The Sick and Shut-in

Members who are sick and shut-in are also listed on the weekly prayer list. Please continue to pray for them. Consider mailing them a card or giving them a call from time-to-time to let them know you’re thinking about them.

You can dedicate the flowers for a given Sunday service.  The cost is $15 for a standard arrangement.  Larger arrangements or specific flowers (roses or carnations), is an additional charge.

Forms are now available on the Welcome desk for your use. Please complete the form and leave it in the “red folder” on the Secretary’s desk. Please do not submit your request, no more than thirty days prior to your dedication Sunday.

You can also call the office by Wednesday if you wish to dedicate flowers for a Sunday.

We have formed a "Green Team" to increase recycling at Bethany.  If you would like to be on the team, please contact Darlene DeMarr or Charlene McGinity.

Also, in our efforts of going 'green', Tower Notes are now available via e-mail.  If you would like to receive the Tower Notes via e-mail, please send an e-mail to: bethany7128@verizon.net (the Church e-mail).  Receiving the Tower Notes via e-mail will save the church both time and money.  Thank you!
